Dianxue: A Genre-Specific Form of Attack in Martial Arts Fiction

A manner of attacking one’s enemy, known as dianxue (cavity press), recurs in martial arts fiction, such as Fox Volant of the Snowy Mountain (1993) by Jin Yong. Jin Yong is a contemporary master writer of martial arts fiction. This article attempts to help readers understand dianxue by underpinning their assumptions with examples drawn from the English translation of this fictional work.
