An Introduction to W. Barton-Wright (1860–1951) and the Eclectic Art of Bartitsu

William Barton-Wright, an English engineer living in Japan in the 1890’s, was fascinated with martial arts and studied them while in Japan for three years. He was responsible for bringing two pioneers of jujutsu and judo to England, Tani Yukio and Uyenishi Sadukazu. Barton-Wright later synthesized his combative studies into his own art.
