Ethnic Strife and the Origins of Kajukenbo

By Jeffrey Barlow, Ph.D. and Morgan Day, B.A.

Ethnic Strife and the Origins of Kajukenbo

Kajukenbo developed during the mid- to late-20th century in Hawaii, fusing together martial traditions from a variety of sources among the uniquely eclectic ethnic mix found in the population:?Chinese, Japanese, Filippino, and Korean. National rivalries were overcome in the creation of the first eclectic American martial art.
