The Functional Anatomy of the Hip for Martial Arts

The hip is the central joint in martial arts training, important in centering and power transmission. This article examines the anatomy (skeletal and muscular) and function of the hip as they apply to karate training. Four commonly practiced kicks were selected to demonstrate the functional application of hip anatomy.
