Stickfighting (garrote), survives in South America, specifically in Venezuela, largely through its association with a peculiar folk tradition that mixes dance and music with stickfighting. Larense is used as an adjective meaning “from Lara,” one of the states of Venezuela. Like the Philippines, there is also a Spanish influence present.
