Sugawara Tetsutaka Discusses Aikido, Ueshiba Morihei and the Kagura-kotodama Staff

The bulk of this article concerns the kagura-kotodama routine performed by Ueshiba Morihei early each morning at the Aiki shrine in Ibaraki. Ueshiba created this routine based upon his knowledge of a Shinto dance form known as “kagura” and the systematic use of utterances known as kotodama from the Omoto-kyo religion.
