Japanese martial arts are associated with the student-teacher relationship, degrees of formality, and the level of emphasis on etiquette in the dojo. In this interview, noted martial arts teacher Ellis Amdur explores these and other concepts. He also discusses Araki-ryu’s close combat; and Toda-ha Buko-ryu use of the naginata.
