The School of Hard Knocks: Seattle's Kurosaka / Tentoku Kan Dojo 1928–1942

Kurosaka Hiroshi, 3rd-dan judo, opened a dojo in Seattle in 1928, following his split with the Seattle Dojo which had been in operation for some years previous. A colorful history marks the dojo and its practitioners: exhibitions, intra-club tournaments, war-time influences on practice. Its members helped spread judo throughout the United States.
