The passing of Grandmaster Yagi Meitoku at 91 (February 7, 2003) signified the end of an era in the art of Goju-ryu. He left five katas, the Meibuken katas, as his contribution to Goju-ryu karate. These katas are Yagi Meitoku’s record of the fighting practices, techniques, drills, and innovations he developed over a lifetime of study.
