Karate Pioneer Yabu Kentsu, 1866–1937

Yabu Kentsu was well-known Shorin-ryu karate teacher of the early 20th century, a peer of Funakoshi. He was one of Okinawa’s earliest public school karate teachers and introduced karate to Hawai’i during the 1920’s with the first public demonstration there. He served in the Japanese Army in the Sino-Japanese War.
